The Machar community thrives upon its diversity. We have members of all ages with different cultural and religious backgrounds, lifestyles, and beliefs, and we welcome the opportunity to come together based on a shared interest in Jewish heritage. From September to May, we meet approximately twice a month on Sunday mornings at the Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation’s Capital at 4715 16th Street, NW, Washington DC 20011. Following our Jewish Cultural School and Adult Education program from 10 to 11:30 a.m., we will have Community Sunday activities throughout the year. Prospective members are welcome to visit.
Community Sunday activities frequently revolve around the Jewish calendar, but they also may include community service opportunities and other fun activities. We often incorporate music from the Machar songbook. Examples of Sunday activities for 2014-15 include Israeli dancing, a Tashlikh celebration and creek cleanup, an Inter-generational Oral History Video day, and assembly of soup and trail mixes for a food pantry. You can access our current Adult Ed and Community Sunday calendar for Community Sunday dates and descriptions.
