Guest Speaker: Michael Podhorzer – What’s Ahead for American Labor Activism?

A senior strategist for AFL-CIO, Mike Podhorzer will share insights into what lies ahead for the resurgent American labor movement. Amazon, Starbucks, UPS, and the auto industry - with a tight labor market, are American workers finally ready to take the fight for fair wages, workplace safety, and other justice issues to corporate HQs? Assistant to the AFL-CIO's president for strategic research, Mike is the lead architect of the strategy to expand labor’s political reach to all of America’s working families, whether or not they are covered by collective bargaining. Podhorzer was recognized as an early leader in data driven politics in The Victory Lab. He is the co-chair of Catalist, founding chair of the Analyst Institute, and serves on multiple boards of progressive organizations.

Sunday May 19, 2024 (In person and ZOOM)

Guest Speaker: Maggie Paxson -- Bomb Shelter Cafe

Maggie Paxson is the creator of the Bomb Shelter Café http://www.bombsheltercafe.com, a series of sing-along events inspired by embattled communities during the WWII. From private homes to community centers and places of worship, Bomb Shelter Cafés provide opportunities for people to raise their voices together in troubled times and create a moment of unity in a divided world. Maggie is also the author of The Plateau (Riverhead, 2019), a prize-winning account of the rescue of Jewish children in a remote French village during the Holocaust.
