Members of Machar, the Washington Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, believe that an intrinsic part of being Jewish and being a Humanist is to work actively for positive social change. As an expression of our ethical perspective and identity as Jews and as Humanists we work to bring about the healing and transformation of the world-- tikkun olam (repair of the world). We see this as the core of our legacy from generations past.
We
identify specific community service activities, reflecting our core
values, in which our members can participate to achieve this goal. It
is through activities such as these that we live our Humanistic
philosophy and express our Jewish ethical perspective and identity. |
