Children's Education Our Sunday school is called Jewish Cultural School because of our curriculum focus on values, Jewish identity, the history of the Jewish people, and of course Jewish culture. We meet twenty times a year for classes and holiday events. We serve children from kindergarten through 7th grade, with our program culminating in b'nei mitsvah ceremonies for children completing work on bar or bat mitzvah study and projects. We also hold children's Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur ceremonies just prior to the adult ceremony each year. Adult Education Machar presents two streams of adult education programs, one on Friday nights, generally monthly, and the other on Sunday mornings concurrent with Sunday school classes. Topics range from various aspects of Jewish history to public affairs to what we call Humanist Life Issues, and more. Presenters and discussion leaders come from within the membership and also from outside contacts. Watch this website and the Machar newsletter for news of upcoming programs. These sessions are open to the public and are a great way for prospective members to check us out. Download the Spring 2010 Adult Education Calendar: Machar Library Here you will find all sorts of Machar documents, including Rabbinical Commentaries, B'nei Mitzvah Presentations, past copies of the Machar newsletter, and Liturgies. |
