Meet Machar's Rabbi

Binyamin Raviv Biber

Rabbi Ben BiberBinyamin Raviv Biber joined Machar in 2001 as our congregation's first rabbi. Ben was among the earliest students who received rabbinic training and ordination from the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism. Machar is fortunate to be one of the beneficiaries of this new educational program.

In addition to his rabbinic degree, Ben has a masters degree in social work from the University of Michigan, and many years of experience as a teacher, counselor, and community organizer. While Machar continues to be a member-run congregation, relying heavily on the volunteer efforts of members, Rabbi Biber provides unique professional contributions to many aspects of Machar's programs. His background and experience enhance our Jewish Cultural School for children, our Teen Activities Program, our adult education program, and of course, Machar's holiday celebrations. Ben's long-standing commitment to social action reinforces Machar's traditionally strong program in this area.
