Did You Pray At Your Public School

 Recite the 23rd Psalm?

 Listen to a Bible Reading?

Please come and share your experiences!  Today’s battles over religious practices in American public schools have long roots.   Whether it is prayer on the football field or  public religious schools or book censorship, the separation of Church and State is eroding.

Local author Scot Seligman will discuss his new book, “The Great Christmas Boycott of 1906,”  the forgotten story of a Brooklyn Elementary School Principal who urged his students, including his Jewish students, to be more like Jesus Christ.   Fourteen -year-old Gussie Herbert objected and was promptly ejected from the school assembly and a  long and acrimonious rebellion ensued.

Scot Seligman is a nation-wide award-winning writer of narrative non-fiction and biography. He holds an undergraduate degree in American History from Princeton  and a masters from Harvard. His books on American Jewish history include, “The Chief Rabbi’s Funeral: The  Untold Story of America’s Largest Antisemitic Riot,”  and The Great Kosher Meat War of 1902: “Immigrant Housewives and the Riots That Shook New York City.”
