Do you love to sing? Do you want to make some new friends and explore different types of music? Would you like to play an inspirational role at Machar’s High Holiday services?
Then come join us at the Machar choir! No previous experience is necessary – just a willingness to show up for rehearsals and sing! We are a small but mighty group [under a dozen], and we meet in members’ homes in DC or Maryland, with regular rehearsals – once or twice a week – starting a few months before the High Holidays. We also meet and rehearse at various times the rest of the year for other events – for example, singing at the Hanukkah party or the Machar Passover seder, or at the annual Machar coffeehouse.
Our music ranges from secular humanist versions of liturgical songs (in Hebrew) to folk songs and a few things in between. We sing some songs in unison but arrange others in four parts (soprano/alto/tenor/bass). We are also looking for accompanists, so if you play guitar or tickle the ivories, we’d welcome you too!
